Medicine Buddha (Bhaisajyaguru)

Medicine Buddha Statues

Our world class Medicine Buddha statues are holding the stem of the medicinal myrobalan plant between the thumb and index finger of the right hand. Additionally, the right hand is draped over the right knee with the palm facing outwards. This hand expresses the Varada or “boon granting” mudra. It is the symbol of ultimate compassion and the granting of knowledge to sentient life. The left hand of our Medicine Buddha statues is holding the lapis bowl in the palm and it is resting in the lap. This bowl contains the 3 nectars which cure the 3 poisons of ignorance, hatred and attachment.

Medicine Buddha is a highly venerated figure in Mahayana Buddhist beliefs. Medicine Buddha is also known as Bhaisajyaguru and he resides in his own eastern pure land of “Lapis Jewel” also known as “Pure Lapis Lazuli”.
