Amitabha Buddha is known as the “Buddha of Infinite Light and Life”. This is because he remained a Bodhisattva named Dharmakara for many thousands of lifetimes. As a result of his vow to remain a Bodhisattva until he had his own pure land, he accumulated an infinite amount of merit. Additionally, Amitabha Buddha is highly associated with the Buddha Amitayus in Tibetan Buddhism. Amitayus is the Buddha of long life that is the center of Tibetan longevity rituals. Therefore, each Amitabha Buddha Tibetan Thangka painting is of the highest quality. Furthermore, close attention was paid to standards of traditional Tibetan art.
Amitabha completed his vows and he has obtained his own pure land – Sukhavati. As a result, devotees are invited to join him there if they only recite his Amitabha mantra or say his name. The Amitabha mantra is “Om Amitabha Hrih”. You can imagine what his pure land is like by studying our Amitabha Buddha Tibetan thangka paintings. Indeed, his pure land of Sukhavati is believed to be a land of visual and sonorous bliss.
“Om Amitabha Hrih”
Once admitted to his pure land, devotees are protected from ever falling back into the vicissitudes of samsara. Additionally, they receive special assistance and teachings from Amitabha and his retinue of Bodhisattvas. Click here to learn more about Amitabha Buddha.
