Description

Partly Gilded Manjushri Statue

Our Manjushri statue represents the Bodhisattva who is believed to represent the wisdom of the Buddha. Therefore, Manjushri wields the sword of transcendent wisdom over his right shoulder. However, this is not a symbol of brute strength. Instead the sword represents the omnipotence of wisdom to defeat ignorance and delusion. Although this is a gentle annihilation that is carried out with tact and knowledge.

The origins of Manjushri are found in the “Prajnaparamita Sutra”. This is the Buddhist book about the perfection of wisdom which is realized by the ultimate goal of enlightenment. Therefore, Manjushri is held in very high regard. Indeed, it took over 7 centuries to write the Prajnaparamita Sutta. The Buddhist scholars began in first century A.C.E and did not finish until the 7th Century.

Special Features of our Manjushri Statue

This Manjushri statue is partly gilded in 24k gold and features an antiquated ambiance. Additionally, the statue features a lotus flower growing over his left shoulder. The lotus is very significant in Buddhist beliefs because it symbolizes the rewards of Nirvana that await for dedicated devotees.

Additionally, Manjushri sits in full lotus pose on a single lotus pedestal. The full lotus pose indicates that Manjushri rests on a foundation of indestructible virtue. The statue displays traditional features such as the crown and jewels of a Bodhisattva, third eye of wisdom, Ushnisha topknot, neck lines and he is also depicting the Abhaya mudra. The Abhaya mudra is a symbol of fearlessness and protection for those who seek refuge in wisdom. Additionally, the countenance of Manjushri is portraying unshakable confidence.
