Silver Plated Oxidized Copper 14″ White Tara Buddha Statue
Our beautiful silver plated oxidized copper White Tara Buddha statue has all of the classic features. Therefore, she is depicted with her 7 eyes, 2 lotus flowers and showing the Abhaya and Varada mudras. Additionally, White Tara is seated in the full lotus pose on a double lotus pedestal. Our Nepali artisan gave the statue an antiquated finish with the use of oxidized copper and silver plating.
The Abhaya mudra is known as the protection mudra. Although it is originally attributed to Shakyamuni it is also used by other Buddhas and bodhisattvas. Additionally, the meaning remains the same. It is to inspire a sense of fearlessness and confidence in devotees. White Tara is depicting it with her left hand held chest high and palm facing forward.
Our White Tara Buddha statue is also using the Varada or “gift giving” mudra. Therefore, White Tara must be affiliated with gift giving. Indeed, she is also known as the Cintachakra or “wish fulfilling wheel”. Additionally, she has the attributes of long life, healing compassion and serenity.
Feminist White Tara
White Tara is one of the common depictions of the bodhisattva Tara. The origins of Tara lie in the compassion of Avalokitesvara. In fact, it is believed by devotees that she was born from a teardrop that fell from his eye. After her conception Tara has refused incarnation as a male. This is because she feels that there are not enough fully fledged female Buddhas. As a result, she has made a vow to forego awakening until this disparity has been corrected.
